Beware The False Prophet


You knew it was coming. As the economy tanks, every talking head in our industry has advice for you on how to weather the storm. “How to prosper in a recession” is the mantra and yes you have to pay a handsome fee for that webinar, lecture, book, manual or divine inspiration they are hawking. They will realign your business chakras, but it’s going to cost you! What ever happened to a shared purpose I wonder?

The fact is the answer is in front of you. It is an absolute understanding of the market you serve and the consumers who come to you, it is recognizing their needs and delivering the innovation and services they seek. Regardless of how bad the economy may seem, people have needs to fill and business can flourish if you identify the opportunity.

In difficult times innovation and a willingness to abandon old thinking while relentlessly pursuing new opportunities can set you apart, and even grow your business. You will have to leave your comfort zone, but the alternative could be far worse. Discover the problems, concerns and needs of your community and ask your customers what is important to them. From that, new opportunities will be evident to you.
